Developer seeks extenson for Big Hurt Brewhouse in Berwyn
BERWYN – Those aching for a Big Hurt Brewhouse beer at the American State Bank building will have to wait a few more innings to quench their thirst.
The developer and the tenant for the Big Hurt Brewhouse, to be located at 6801 W. Cermak Road, were granted a time extension by the City Council on Tuesday to finish civil drawings and building plans, as allowed by the original redevelopment agreement signed on April 9.
To date, the developer, Heidner Properties of Glendale Heights, has submitted a preliminary site plan, Berwyn Development Corporation President Anthony Griffin said.
Build out financing for the tenant, Former White Sox designated hitter and first baseman Frank “The Big Hurt” Thomas, has also been submitted, Griffin said.
Similar to the first extension approved in mid-June, the proposed extension does come with a $25,000 penalty if the developer does not meet the revised timeline.
Plans include renovating and remodeling the architecturally significant bank building, as well as the construction of a 3,500 square foot restaurant to be constructed on the corner of Grove Avenue.
Involved parties are expected to meet Aug. 20 to discuss the construction schedule. Griffin said actual work is exected to begin in October, with the site's completion expected next spring.
"It's a good splash to have that opening around opening day of the baseball season," Griffin said. "The regional drawing power of Frank Thomas could be something special."
