Dead bird in La Grange tests positive for West Nile Virus

LA GRANGE – A dead bird found in La Grange last week has tested positive for West Nile Virus.

No cases of human infection have been reported in the village, which reported the finding Wednesday on its website after receiving the news from the Cook County Public Health Department.

The Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District sprayed for mosquitoes last week and will continue abatement efforts, the village said. The village encourages residents, especially those with compromised immune systems, to take measures to prevent the possibility of being bitten by a mosquito.

Because an infected bird has been confirmed in the area, residents do not need to report any future dead bird sightings this year, the village said.
