Cullerton bill promoting green infrastructure signed into law
VILLA PARK – A bill that would provide suburban communities guidelines on using environmental technology to reduce storm runoff, flooding and property damage was signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Pat Quinn. The bill was sponsored by State Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park).
The legislation gives clarification to communities on how they can operate and maintain green roofs, rain gardens and other environmentally friendly alternatives to a traditional storm sewer system.
Many local communities have already implemented their own programs and the law defines what oversight authority municipalities have over alternative, green infrastructure systems.
