Aging Care expands elder abuse program

Published: Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 2:27 p.m. CDT

LA GRANGE – As of July, Aging Care Connections has its expanded its elder abuse program to include adults 19 and older.

The program, which has been renamed Adult Protective Services, aims to protect those who have a disability that impairs them for seeking relief from abuse, neglect or exploitation.

Abuse of those with disabilities and the elderly is most often unreported, the organization said, because of several factors, including fear of retaliation by the abuser or fear of institutionalization. Victims are often isolated and have less access to support.

Reports of elder abuse or abuse to a disabled adult should be made to the Adult Protective Services Hotline, 1-866-800-1409.
