Village to pay $132k settlement to motorist struck by Downers Grove patrol car
DOWNERS GROVE – The Village of Downers Grove will pay a $132,000 settlement to a motorist whose vehicle was struck by a village police car in August 2011.
A resolution is on Tuesday night's village council consent agenda to appropriate money from the risk fund to pay the court settlement to the motorist, David Rosa.
Rosa was driving eastbound on Ogden Avenue on Aug. 12, 2011 with a passenger, William Keim, when a village patrol car collided with Rosa's vehicle. Both Rosa and Keim sustained injuries in the crash for which they received medical treatment and lost time from work, according to village council documents.
Rosa and Keim both filed lawsuits seeking recovery for damages from the village and the police officer.
The payment of $132,000 settles Rosa's case against the village and the officer, but Keim's case is still pending, according to village documents.
