DARIEN – Since she was a little girl, Marian Stockhausen knew that whatever path she took in life, she wanted the ending destination to be in the field of education.
“I used to play school when I was younger,” Stockhausen said. “I’ve always enjoyed being in the education field.”
At the end of July, Stockhausen was named the principal at Our Lady of Peace in Darien and said she was thrilled to join the school and community.
“They have a wonderful staff, wonderful parish community and I felt extremely welcome,” Stockhausen said.
Growing up, she was an only child, but today, Stockhausen enjoys quite a large family, which includes her husband, Bill, seven children and eight grandchildren.
Having a large family has helped Stockhausen during the 18 years she has spent in the education field because she can connect with a variety of students. She said she has enjoyed teaching everything from technology to math to reading at most grade levels.
“I taught kindergarten through eighth, and they all have their special qualities,” she said. “The students bring excitement to each grade level.”
Stockhausen completed her educational doctorate degree at National Louis University in 2005 and was previously an assistant principal for six years and principal for another six years at elementary school levels.
As the start of the school year approaches, Stockhausen said she looks forward to meeting the children and being an asset to the school anyway she can, but so far, the outpour from the community and Our Lady of Peace has been something special for Stockhausen.
“They (OLOP) had a nice reception for me with a little breakfast,” she said. “The staff had come in, and I got to meet them. They were a beautiful staff and the families have been dropping by to say hello.”
