Elmhurst resident helps Windmills 11U to state and World Series titles

Katherine Karnatz of Elmhurst helped lead the Windmills 11U softball team to multiple state titles and the USSSA World Series title.

Karnatz led the team throughout the year in batting average, on base percentage, and stolen bases.

The Windmills won the Oklahoma City Challenge 12U tournament at the beginning of June. They also won the 11U USSSA “A” State Championship, going undefeated. They then went on to win the 12U “A” ASA Chicago Metros State Tournament as the underaged team at the 12U level.

The Metros win provided the Windmills with backto back Metros ASA “A” state titles, because the Windmills also won the tournament in 2012 at the 10U level. The Windmills’ win is also the first time an underage team has won the Metros State Championship title.

At the USSSA World Series in Des Moines, Iowa, the Windmills bested 43 other teams, going undefeated and winning the World Series. The team averaged 8.9 runs per game while giving up only 0.7 runs per game. The entire Windmills team was awarded the World Series Offensive MVP Award.
