DuPage Sheriff to lead new search for John Spira, missing since 2007
The DuPage County Sheriff's Office announced that department detectives will conduct a search of various wooded areas in Northern DuPage County for clues in the case of John Spira, who has been missing since 2007, according to an Aug. 13 news release from the sheriff's office.
John Spira went missing under suspicious circumstances on Feb. 23, 2007, according to the release. He was last seen by his business partner Dave Stubben at their Universal Cable Construction business at 2N225 County Farm Road in unincorporated West Chicago. That night, Spira had made arrangements to meet a friend at an Oak Brook restaurant for dinner at 8:30 p.m., but never arrived, Suburban Life Media previously reported. The next day, Spira failed to appear for a concert his band was playing at a Montgomery restaurant.
Spira and Stubben ran the business for more than a decade.
According to the Missing John Spira Facebook page, the first search will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 15 in the Center Ice Hockey Rink in Glen Ellyn at 1N450 Highland Ave. There will be another search at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17 in the parking lot of St. Francis High School at 2130 W. Roosevelt Road in Wheaton. A third search will be held Sunday. Its time and location have not yet been announced.
Spira's sister, Stephanie McNeil, will be searching alongside the detectives throughout the week. Anyone with information regarding the disappearance is advised to call the sheriff's office at 630-407-2333.
