Cosley Zoo Nature Play Area offers creative place to play

WHEATON – Children at Cosley Zoo now have a place to let their imaginations run wild with the zoo's new Nature Play Area, according to a zoo news release.

The area, which opened in May, is filled with objects found in nature, such as tree stumps, rocks and logs in place of typical playground equipment. This allows for kids to make their own fun, creating see saws and imagining mountains to climb, according to the release.

The area is available for play whenever the zoo is open and is free with admission. The zoo offers a slightly more structured program as well, called Zoo Investigators. The area also includes a free library, provided by Girl Scout Troop 368 at St. Michael's Parish.

Most of the materials used to create the play area were donated to the zoo, other than some lumber used to build the fence, according to Tami Romejko, the education supervisor at Cosley.
