BERWYN – Two Morton West High School graduates will attend college in the fall with with a little extra support thanks to the city of Berwyn Dollars 4 Scholars program.

They also will be the last Berwyn students to benefit from the program.

Ylse Bear, a Morton West High School graduate, who will be attending Lewis University, and Neriangela Velez, a Morton West High School graduate attending Monmouth College this fall, were chosen by the Dollars for Scholars Committee to each receive $1,270 to be directly applied to their tuition.

Both students were recognized at the Aug. 13 City Council meeting.

City Clerk Tom Pavlik, who serves as chairman of the Dollars 4 Scholars Committee, announced that this marks the last year for the program as a result of increases in charter fees.

Pavlik said the Committee decided to dissolve the chapter and its association with Scholarhip America, which began in 2002.
