Nonprofit to hold bowling fundraiser for pets in combat zones
WHEATON – The Puppy Rescue Mission, a nonprofit organization uniting soldiers who served abroad with the animal friends they made while they were there will hold a bowling fundraiser Aug. 18 in Wheaton, according to a news release from the nonprofit.
Battle Buddy Bowling will be from 2 to 5 p.m. at Fox Bowl.
The Puppy Rescue Mission was founded in April 2010 by Ann Cannan when her fiance, Sgt. Christopher Chiasson, told her about three local dogs the soldiers had taken under their wing in Afghanistan. The dogs attacked a suicide bomber who snuck into their camp at night, saving the lives of 50 troops stationed there. One of the dogs died in the attack, but after another gave birth to puppies, Cannan helped her fiance and several others adopt them and bring them to the U.S.
