Elmhurst College receives state grant to improve science center

ELMHURST – Elmhurst College plans to renovate and expand its Arthur J. Schaible Science Center with $1.5 million in grants the college has received from the state.

The grant money comes as part of Governor Quinn's Illinois Jobs Now! program aimed at creating construction jobs for state workers. The program provides $90 million specifically to address the needs of Illinois' private colleges and universities. DuPage and Will county private colleges and universities received a total of $6.7 million in grants for campus construction, improvements and upgrades.

The first phase of the multi-year project will address the Schaible Science Center's most important needs, including new or renovated labs and classrooms. Elmhurst College President S. Alan Ray said the grant money will benefit the growing number of students who are majoring in science and health-related fields at the school.
