Letter: Journalist opposes Roskam ethics probe

Published: Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 9:00 a.m. CDT

To the Editor:

As a former dedicated and highly ethical journalist once employed by your publications, I would like to offer comment on a recent story regarding a House ethics investigation of U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.).

I have always found that the Wheaton congressman, whom I covered in the Wheaton Journal when he first ran for state office and later, for Press Publications' weekly “Word on the Street” political column, is one of the most ethical elected officials I have ever met in my 31-year journalism career, and he deserves to be cleared of any alleged wrongdoing.

Mr. Roskam, a devoted family man and public servant, has served his constituents well over the years and deserves just treatment. Let's hope this probe into his travel activities ends soon.
