Fire destroys vacant house in Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE – The Downers Grove Fire Department was dispatched at 4:23 a.m. Friday for a residential fire at 610 Rogers St. in Downers Grove.

Upon the fire department’s arrival at 4:27 a.m., crews encountered smoke and flames coming from the roof and a window of a small one story home. The home was unoccupied and under construction at the time of the fire, according to a release.

Firefighters made entry into the home in an effort to contain and extinguish the fire and it was struck at 4:40 a.m. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The Downers Grove Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the following departments: Lisle-Woodridge, Oak Brook, Hinsdale and the Downers Grove Police and Public Works Departments.

Estimated damages at this time are reported to be about $250,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
