LYONS – Beginning next Monday, a new community market will be held in Veteran's Park, 8225 Ogden Ave., according to a news release from the village of Lyons.

The Lyons Community Market will be open each Monday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Oct. 28.

Commuters can enjoy free coffee as they shop for locally grown and fresh produce and bakery items, according to Lyons Mayor Christopher Getty. Also offered will be pulled pork sandwiches and similar fare available for a picnic in the park, or to take home and share. A variety of handcrafted items, such as jewelry, aprons, greeting cards and scarves will also be sold.

Officials from the Lyons Public Library will be on hand to talk about upcoming programs and provide library cards. Members of the Lyons Community Garden will be available to share information about their current garden project, which includes donating food to local food pantries and encouraging sustainability in the community.

Attendees who have their own gardens can also use the market to shop for a variety of perennials, small shrubs, hanging baskets and flower arrangements from a local florist and area garden centers.
