Express Swim Club finishes 9th at NCSA championships

Quartet of Downers Grove North swimmers earn top-10 finishes

DOWNERS GROVE – The high school swimming season doesn't start until Aug. 26, but several members of Downers Grove North's girls team seem to be in peak form already.

Competing for Express Swim Club at the National Club Swimming Association Summer Junior National Championships in Indianapolis July 30-Aug. 3, The 400-meter relay team of Gaby Serniute, Gabby Sims, Maddy Sims and Emily Albrecht finished seventh with a time of 3:56.94. Both Sims are incoming seniors at North while Serniute and Albrecht will be juniors.

As a team, Express Swim Club placed 9th out of 55 teams with 140 points.

Gabby Sims had strong showings on her own with top-10 finishes in the 50 backstroke (2nd, 29.76), 50 freestyle (3rd, 26.75) and 50 butterfly (5th, 28.84).

Both Sims, Albrecht and teammate Erin Stevens enjoyed top-5 finishes in both the 200 freestyle relay (3rd, 1:47.54) and 200 medley relay (4th, 2:00.66).
