Gbur: Get ready to "Rec & Roll"
What do you do when your child with a developmental disability ages out of the school system? A lucky few are able to find a job. But even then, it is probably only a few hours a week. For the majority of families, the reality is that there are limited options for how their loved one can spend their day.
Day programs can fill the void of those long hours with no structure or supervision. Designed to provide a safe, supervised environment with meaningful activities, day programs keep adults engaged socially and offer opportunities to grow their skills.
In 2005, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association opened the doors on its very first Rec & Roll day program. The program has grown so much that a fourth location at the new Carol Stream Fountain View Recreation Center will open this fall. Altogether, Rec & Roll will be serving over 100 adults ranging in age from 21 to 55.
