Anderson: DuPage Township programs benefit the community

Downers Grove Township is involved with multiple projects that benefit your community.

Your Highway Department spearheads many of these programs, which include:

Catch basins/storm drain treatment

Downers Grove Township is committed to mosquito control and each spring the Highway Department treats catch basins/storm sewers throughout the township.

These catch basins are treated with larvicides that kill and prevent mosquito larva from hatching into adults.

To help control the mosquitos we ask residents to keep your rain gutters clean, change birdbaths, wading pools and check your property after a rainfall to empty any pooled water.

Fall brush pickup program

Our brush pickup program covers only the unincorporated areas of Downers Grove Township.

Please remember that the dates below are target dates and delays due to weather, equipment failure, etc. can affect the schedule. Crews will make a pass by your house only once during the scheduled pickup period.

Here are the dates of service for the pickup program:

On Aug. 26, the area from County Line Road west to Route 83; on Sept. 9, from Route 83 west to Clarendon Hills Road; on Sept. 23, from Clarendon Hills Road west to Cass Avenue; on Oct. 7, from Cass Avenue west to Lemont Road; on Oct. 21 from Lemont Road west to Woodward Avenue.

Brush is to be placed on the parkway no earlier than one week prior to the pickup scheduled in each area, and no later than 7:30 a.m. on the date pickup begins.

All brush must be cut in lengths under 6 feet long with pieces no larger than 3 inches in diameter.

We prefer all brush be securely bundled with string or twine; no bundle should exceed 25 pounds. Wire is not acceptable for tying bundles.

Items which do not conform to these guidelines will not be picked up. It will be the homeowner’s responsibility to dispose of them.

Electronic recycling program

Downers Grove Township Highway Department’s monthly electronic recycling program is held on the third Saturday of every month from 8 a.m. to noon, except holiday weekends.

Electronics may be dropped off at 318 E. Quincy St in Westmont.
