Wheaton Municipal Band seeks audience participation for Thursday concert

Published: Tuesday, July 30, 2013 11:35 a.m. CDT

WHEATON – The Wheaton Municipal Band will be a little less "classical novella" and a little more "choose your own adventure" at this week's concert.

For the first time, the municipal band will host an audience participation concert, where the audience selects the music they want to hear, according to a band news release.

Audience members will vote for the songs they want to hear through a special clicker system or by text message, the release said. Musical selections will range from marches to musicals to movie themes. All music will be selected the night of the concert and the band won't know the lineup until the last minute.

The free concert will be held at 8 p.m. Aug. 1 in Memorial Park in downtown Wheaton. The band's annual raffle to raise money for band programming will be held the same night.
