LEMONT – Nathan Hiatt, who was charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery for allegedly beating a Lemont boy while he slept, is expected to be arraigned on Thursday, Aug. 15, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.

Hiatt, who is being held on $250,000 bail, will appear at the Bridgeview courthouse, where he will be given his formal charges and asked to enter a plea.

According to a news release from the Cook County Sheriff's Office, a 10-year-old boy was beaten with a shovel while he slept during the early morning hours of July 6 in unincorporated Cook County near Lemont.

Both the boy and his father, who attempted to shield the boy from the blows, were taken to the hospital and later released, according to the report.

Sheriff’s police were given a description of the offender, which matched that of Hiatt, and located him in the yard, the release said.
