BERWYN – Berwyn police are searching for the brother of a Chicago man who faces murder charges in connection with the shooting death of a Berwyn man early July 25.
Police said Martin Garcia, 20, of the 5800 block of West Roosevelt Road, Chicago, is being held without bond for the fatal shooting of Abraham Atempa-Silva, 33, at his home in the 1300 block of South Ridgeland Avenue.
According to police, Atempa-Silva and Martin Garcia’s brother, Emmanuel Garcia, had been out drinking and returned with other people to Atempa-Silva's residence. Emmanuel Garcia allegedly demanded drugs from Atempa-Silva at about 3:45 a.m. An argument began between the two after Atempa-Silva refused.
Police said Emmanuel Garcia then called Martin Garcia and told him to bring him a gun. Martin Garcia arrived shortly after with a gun in a box. Emmanuel Garcia continued arguing with Atempa-Silva and then shot him in the head. He was pronounced dead at MacNeal Hospital at 4 a.m.
Witnesses said Martin Garcia provided the gun to his brother.
The brothers fled after the shooting, but Martin Garcia returned to the scene, allegedly to find his dog that was running around the area, where he was apprehended, police said.
The weapon has not been recovered at this time.
