The La Grange 16-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars celebrate a tournament title on Sunday, July 28.

LA GRANGE – La Grange's 16-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars beat Downers Grove twice on Sunday to win an invitational tournament.

La Grange won 11-7 in the opener and 13-6 in the clincher to win the title over the hosts at Memorial Park.

A three-run bomb by Kevin Karpinski highlighted a five-run fifth in the second game and sealed the victory. Braedon Belcher also homered in the win.

La Grange had led 5-0 in the first with two-run singles by Craig Metsch and Brett Nicholson.

Braedon Belcher pitched a complete game for the victory. Belcher also went seven innings in Saturday's 4-1 win over Western Conference.

La Grange opened the tourney losing 11-0 to Western Conference Thursday night and never lost again.

They beat the 15-year-olds from La Grange Friday night, 11-1, in five innings. On Saturday they beat Downers' 15s by staging a rally to win 10-9, then beat Western Conference 4-1 behind Belcher, setting the stage for Sunday's heroics.

Belcher and Ben Gawthrop both homered in Sunday's opener. Dan Cuellar got the win and Brendan McDonnell pitched in relief.
