DuPage County to spread awareness about child abuse with 360-mile bike ride

The Children's Advocacy Centers of Illinois has announced it will host a six-day bike ride fundraiser to spread awareness about child abuse throughout the state, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

The organization's Stop the Cycle of Abuse Ride will be a 360-mile ride down Route 66 to raise money for the 39 children's advocacy centers around the state, according to the release. The event begins Oct. 16 at the Children's Advocacy Center of North and Northwest Cook County in Hoffman Estates. The ride will then extend all the way to the St. Louis Charter School in St. Louis, Missouri on Oct. 21, where bikers will be greeted by more than 1,000 teachers and parents.

The CACI, working in conjunction with the county state's attorney's office, is hoping to raise more than $150,000 for the event, according to the release. Registration per rider is $25 before Aug. 1 and then $35 until the event.

Participants may bike as many of the ride's six stages as they want. Each stage requires a minimum of $200 in pledges or donations, according to the release. Those who participate in all six stages must raise a minimum of $1,000.

To register or learn more, contact Tony Holly, the director of development for CACI, at 1-217-528-2224 or visit www.stopthecycle.net.
