DuPage County Sheriff reminds residents about texting crime tip service

Published: Wednesday, July 31, 2013 6:00 a.m. CST

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office is reminding residents of how to tip off law enforcement about a potential crime with a few simple keystrokes, according to a sheriff's office news release.

The Anonymous Crime Tips (ACT) program allows residents to send text messages to the sheriff's office about possible incidents or general tips under the protection of anonymity. Those with cell phones can send a text to CRIMES (274637) with the keyword "SHERIFF" in the message, alongside the tip. The message will be encrypted and forwarded to the sheriff's office, allowing law enforcement to respond to the resident without knowing the tipster's identity or personal information.

The service is offered free of charge. Standard messaging rates may apply.
