DuPage County launches tool to warn residents of West Nile Virus activity
The DuPage County Health Department has created a West Nile Virus online tool to tell residents how much viral activity is occurring in DuPage County, according to a recent electronic newsletter sent by the village of Glen Ellyn to residents.
The Personal Protection Index is designed to help residents protect themselves against the virus. In addition to including information about how many known cases of West Nile Virus are in the county, the tool also highlights recommended prevention steps.
The index categorizes the level of viral activity on a scale of one to four, with one representing no activity and four indicating there are several human cases in the county.
The Personal Protection Index will be updated at 3 p.m. every Wednesday by Health Department staff during the surveillance season.
It is available on the DuPage County website at dupageco.org and the DuPage County Health Department website at www.dupagehealth.org.
