LOMBARD – Lombard Trustee Peter Breen announced Tuesday his candidacy for state Representative for the 48th Legislative District, which includes most of Lombard and Glen Ellyn.

Breen, who has been a trustee since 2011, will run in the Republican primary election in March 2014. Sandra Pihos (R-Glen Ellyn) is the district’s current representative and has served the area as a representative since 2002.

Lombard is the largest community in the 48th District, according to a news release from Breen. The region also covers the eastern portion of Wheaton and smaller portions of Lisle, Downers Grove, Oakbrook Terrace and Villa Park.

Breen served as Lombard’s acting village president until mid-January of this year after long-time Village President Bill Mueller died in 2012. He is chairman of the Lombard Finance Committee and past chairman of the Economic & Community Development Committee, the release stated.

“Folks in this area know that I don’t shrink from a fight, and as state Representative, I will be a strong, clear advocate for the people of the 48th District,” Breen said in the release. “As a trustee and previously as acting village president, I have worked with a divided village board to enact substantial changes that helped the people of Lombard.”
