Evans: Not to late too hit the links at Village Greens in Woodridge

Published: Wednesday, July 31, 2013 5:03 p.m. CDT

At the Woodridge Park District, our motto is “We Live for Fun." And there's always something fun happening at Village Greens of Woodridge golf course.

Summer goes by way too fast in Chicago. School is right around the corner. If you haven't "Lived for Fun" as much as you wanted to this summer, it's not too late. We invite you to grab your golf clubs and the kids or a couple of friends and visit Village Greens of Woodridge today.

If you're searching for a last-minute "bucket list" activity for the kids before summer comes to a close, the 1,000 1st Swings program at Village Greens is a perfect family activity. We provide golf clubs to borrow and complimentary range balls to provide kids an introduction to the game of golf. It's a stress-free atmosphere, available at any time, and absolutely free to participate.

If the kids are already interested in golf, recruiting is underway for the 2014 Village Greens PGA Junior Golf League.

Similar to Little League baseball, we create teams of junior golfers and provide them with uniforms, instruction, structured practices, complimentary range balls, and competitions against other golf courses. There's even an All-Star competition and opportunities to play in regional and national playoffs. Kids between 7 and 13 of all ability levels are welcome to participate.

If improving your game or playing more golf was a goal this summer, we can help.

Village Greens offers range memberships for as low as $29.99 per month. And when you're ready to tee it up, our $9.99 nine-hole club is a great way to enjoy family time on the links. Recently featured in the August issue of Golf Digest magazine, these value-priced opportunities are available at select times throughout the week and are perfect for families looking to spend quality time together.

If you're an avid golfer and your competitive juices are flowing, grab some friends and sign up for the Labor Day four-person scramble. With over 40 teams participating and an estimated purse of $8,000, it's guaranteed to be the highlight of your Labor Day weekend.

We know that back to school time can be hectic, but fortunately the golf season in Chicago doesn't end until there's snow on the ground.

While rates are always attractive at Village Greens, our fall rates, which begin in mid-September, provide even greater value for those who didn't play as much golf as they wanted to during the summer months.

Regardless of your experience, age, or ability level, the staff at Village Greens of Woodridge can assist you and your family in learning and enjoying the game of golf.

So spend some quality time with friends and family, enjoy a day at the golf course, and most of all, "Live for Fun" this summer at the Woodridge Park District.

Brandon Evans is the Golf Manager/Head Golf Professional of the Woodridge Park District.
