LISLE – This sure wasn’t what Lyons Township had in mind.

The Lions made five errors and gave up 10 hits in the first two innings against St. Rita in the final of the Phil Lawler Classic Thursday at Benedictine University.

LT paid the price with an 11-0 loss in five innings. Rita scored four runs on three errors in the first inning and seven more runs in the second.

“That’s baseball,” said LT coach George Ushela. “I wish it would have been a better game.

“Two good teams here and it was a lopsided score. You’ve seen that in baseball.”

The Lions were gunning for a second straight summer state title. Sam Heilenbach, John Heilenbach, Max Larsen and Quinton Hughes were named to the all-tournament team for the Lions.
