WESTERN SPRINGS – Western Springs resident Camille Padilla is spending eight weeks this summer interning for U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill, in his Washington, D.C. office.

Padilla, who will be a senior at DePaul University in the fall, grew interested in politics while attending the 2008 Democratic National Convention. A double major in broadcast journalism and public relations, Padilla previously interned at WGN-TV in Chicago. She is also the radio voice of the DePaul women's basketball team.

“I am thrilled to be a part of Senator Durbin’s press team,” Padilla said in a news release. “Being in Washington, D.C. is where I believe the most important national news and history is occurring and should be documented every step of the way.  There is no better place to learn.”

Each year, about 50 interns are selected to work in Durbin's office in the nation's capital. Interns process constituent requests, help with legislative duties and lead tours of the Capitol building for Illinois residents visiting Washington, D.C.
