Westchester to reimburse residents for flood-proofing projects
WESTCHESTER – A new flood-proofing assistance program is designed to help residents in a village that has experienced two 100-year floods in the past three years.
The program, approved by the Village Board at its meeting Tuesday, will offer up to $1,500 to residents who have plumbing work done to prevent sewage from flowing into their house when the village's sewer system is full, which occurred during heavy rains this April and in 2010.
The village will cover 50 percent of costs up to $1,500 for three types of plumbing revisions: an overhead sewer, an interior or exterior backflow prevention valve and a lift station system with an inside or outside underground vault. Permit fees will also be waived.
