Westchester considers adult cafe with video gambling

WESTCHESTER – A new adult cafe/bar with video gambling machines is under consideration by the village.

On Tuesday, the village heard a prevention from a representative of Laredo Hospitality, which offers restaurant and cafe concepts that feature video gaming terminals like video poker, slots and blackjack.

The cafe/bar would serve beer, wine and light food fare in a more upscale environment and would also offer wi-fi, said Village Manager Janet Matthys.

"It would present an option if somebody enjoys gaming but doesn't want to sit in a bar," Matthys said.

The machines would have a limited payout of $500, and each game is limited to a $2 bet. No more than five machines are allowed per location.

Because the village would receive five percent of gambling revenue, it could bring in $30,000 to $40,000 a year, Matthys said, also including revenue from a food and beverage tax.

Laredo Hospitality has a location in Hoffman Estates and is building another in Melrose Park, Matthys said.

No plans have been approved, and the village will continue to explore the idea.
