LA GRANGE

Car window smashed, possibly by brick

A woman told police she found a brick in the middle of the road in the 100 block of Malden Avenue and then observed a nearby black Acura with a smashed window. The report was made at 5:07 a.m. July 25.

Ex-boyfriend steals electronics, cash

A woman in the 100 block of East Avenue said her ex-boyfriend stole electronics and $300 from her mother when she wasn’t home, she reported at 8:31 p.m. July 24.

Hit and run

• A car was hit while parked in the parking lot outside a restaurant in the first block of La Grange Road, the car’s owner reported at 5:01 p.m. July 21.

• An SUV parked in the first block of Harris Avenue was hit by another car, the SUV’s owner reported at 12:35 p.m. July 21.

Cell phone stolen from restaurant table

A woman reported that her cell phone was stolen from her table at a restaurant in the first block of La Grange Road at 5:24 p.m. July 21.

Teens throw bagels at each other near fountain

A group of teens was throwing bagels at each other in front of the fountain outside Village Hall at 11:05 p.m. July 24. A small amount of food was left at the fountain.

Squirrel moved out of street

A woman called police to report that an injured squirrel was lying in the road near Stone and Ogden avenues and that she was afraid a car would hit it. An officer helped her move the squirrel out of the street and into nearby grass. The squirrel did not show any signs of distress at the time.

LA GRANGE PARK

Harassment through electronic communications

Anand S. Vade, 38, of the 500 block of Ashland Avenue, was charged with harassment through electronic communications after sending more than 40 threatening text messages to a cab driver he thought had stolen the SD card from his cell phone July 5. Vade has a court date of Aug. 28 in Maywood.

Battery

Demetrius S. Ryan, 20, of the 9600 block of South Meade Avenue, Oak Lawn, was arrested and charged with battery after punching a man at a birthday party. Ryan and another man were asked to leave the party and did, but returned later. At 1:48 a.m. July 21, police received a call about a fight at the party. A man told police Ryan had punched him in the face, and police observed a bleeding laceration on the man’s bottom lip. Police observed that Ryan was intoxicated. His court date is Aug. 14 in Maywood.

Driving without license

Rodolfo Chavez, 53, of the 6200 block of South Karlov Avenue, Chicago, was charged for driving without a license, no proof of insurance and speeding after being pulled over in the 1000 block of La Grange Road at 3:44 a.m. July 19.

Warrant arrest

Ralph Novelo, 47, of the 900 block of Heartwood Lane, Lake Zurich, was arrested on a warrant out of McHenry County at 2:15 a.m. July 20 in the 1200 block of 31st Street.

WESTERN SPRINGS

Driving with suspended license

Wenceslao Martinez-Vasquez, 45, of the 300 block of South Lawndale Avenue, Chicago, was charged with driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance and disobeying a traffic control device at 12:25 p.m. July 20.

COUNTRYSIDE

Man arrested on $1 million warrant for armed robbery charges

Jose Vilma, 47, of the first block of Ash Street, was arrested July 19 on a $1 million bond issued in Winnebago County for multiple charges, including armed robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The warrant was issued for an incident that occurred near Rockford involving 14 suspects thought to be affiliated with the Hells Angels motorcycle club. Vilma was turned over to Illinois State Police.

Driving without license

Joel Sagal-Ibarra, 56, of the 6000 block of Byron Street, Chicago, was charged with driving without a license after being pulled over for making an improper left turn in the 5800 block of La Grange Road July 20.

Wine stolen from grocery store

A man purchased a 2-liter bottle of cola from the Aldi at 9930 Joliet Road, but did not pay for $6.22 in other items, including a $4.99 bottle of wine, pork, beans and spaghetti and meatballs, the store’s manager reported at 1:45 p.m. July 21. The manager said she saw the man pull the bottle of wine out from under his shirt once he left the store. He refused to show her his receipt and fled the store on his bicycle.

WESTCHESTER

DUI

Syed Hussain, 20, of the 9800 block of Glendale Lane, Niles, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police arrested him at 12:21 a.m. July 20 in the 111000 block of 31st Street after they received a complaint from a driver who said Hussain’s vehicle was swerving. Hussain was also charged for driving without a valid license and possession of open alcohol.

Domestic battery

Paul Loresch, 54, of the 1500 block of Evers Avenue, was charged with domestic battery at 6:31 p.m. July 20 after allegedly striking a family member.

Cash stolen from restaurant

Someone forced entry into a restaurant in the 1900 block of Mannheim Road and stole cash, the restaurant’s owner reported. The incident occurred between 12:30 and 9:30 a.m. July 18.

Texter caught after driving away from police

Eric Balciunas, 24, of the 1400 block of Canal Street, Chicago, attempted to speed away from police after they observed him texting while driving. He was caught in the 2200 block of Gardner Road and charged with fleeing and eluding police, texting while driving, driving with a revoked license and multiple other traffic violations.
