Elmhurst shoe collection to benefit children worldwide

Published: Sunday, July 28, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

ELMHURST – Soles for Kids is collecting gently used shoes in Elmhurst to send to children in need.

The organization works in partnership with Soles for Africa to supply shoes to children that may otherwise have to walk barefoot to and from school. Soles for Kids ships shoes to other countries, but also to children in the U.S. who need them.

Almost all types of gently worn shoes are welcome, from boots to gym shoes – even flip flops. Women's formal dress shoes are the only footwear that won't be accepted. Soles for Kids also collects soccer balls, volleyballs and tennis balls to send to children.

Donations can be dropped off at Courts Plus, 186 S. West Avenue by Aug. 31. Visit www.solesforafrica.org for more information or to make a monetary donation to offset shipping expenses.
