LEMONT – The Hope and Friendship Foundation held its annual Unbirthday Party on July 16 for children from struggling households in Lemont.

The event at Calvary Church in Lemont included games, cake, ice cream, crafts, music and gifts for the children and their families.

Community volunteers included Ss. Cyril and Methodius School eighth graders and Emmanuel Baptist Church teens, who were accompanied by a group from Southern Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.

The teens from Oklahoma City were in town for the week in the first year of a three-year partnership to help with Emmanuel's summer bible camp and local outreach.

Terri O'Neill-Borders, who organized the event, said the volunteers from Oklahoma City helped make the party the most successful one yet.

"I'll work around their schedule to make sure they can help next year," she said.
