RIVER FOREST – Lyons Township baseball is at it again.

The Lions, which won the summer state title last year and have four summer titles in program history, advanced to the final eight of the Phil Lawler Illinois Baseball Summer State Tournament by winning the Fenwick regional on Thursday.

LT, which entered as the top seed in the 15-team regional, beat Morton 6-0 on Tuesday, Leyden 6-0 on Wednesday and knocked off neighboring Nazareth 5-3 in Thursday's final at Fenwick's Priory Fields in River Forest.

Next up for the Lions (23-6 in the summer) is a Monday quarterfinal against Plainfield East at North Central College. The final eight is double elimination so both teams will play again regardless of the result.

Four of the eight programs still alive made the spring state semifinals either this year or last. LT and Minooka made the final four in 2012 and Libertyville and St. Charles East made it this spring.

All remaining games in the tournament will be broadcast live and archived on High School Cube's tournament page.
