Elmhurst boutique offers accessories for every occasion

ELMHURST – Enzee Boutique in Elmhurst’s City Centre sparkles from wall to wall with necklaces in glass display cases and earring trees on tables.

“So far, as accessories, we have over 100 different vendors,” manager Dana Wellings said.

From brides to prom queens and mothers to grandmothers, Wellings loves to find the perfect piece her customers need to make their outfit complete.

“Accessorizing is the most important thing to complete your outfit,” said Wellings, who has been working at Enzee for nearly seven years.

A 2006 graduate of Dominican University, Wellings knew she wanted to work in fashion from a young age. She remembers cutting up her Barbies’ clothes and restyling them. Sometimes, she can style the same top for a 20, 40 or 60 year-old, just by accessorizing it appropriately.

After working retail since she was 16, store owner Natalie Zysko opened Enzee (her initials spelled out) just 18 months after graduating from Dominican in 2001. They both earned degrees in apparel design, fashion merchandising and business administration.

“I like that there’s variety,” Wellings said. “It’s not sitting in a cubicle, and it’s not just being in any other store, because you’re still doing the business side of things.”

Zysko and her buyers travel to New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Atlanta to find new fashions for the boutique.

While the boutique maintains a wide selection, its small size allows managers and Zysko to meet customers’ needs immediately.

“If we don’t have what you need, we can either find it or make it,” Wellings said.

In September, the store hosts a denim event to help customers through every woman’s nightmare: finding jeans that fit.

The boutique also will host a sidewalk Wednesday through Aug. 4. Summer fashions will be marked down by up to 90 percent, including more than 200 pieces of jewelry.

“You don’t have to be a millionaire to be able to get something nice and different,” Wellings said.

The sidewalk sale also will coincide with the first annual discount days in downtown Elmhurst. Enzee, along with 22 other retailers in the area, will provide free snacks while shoppers win in-store discounts through a bean bag toss from Thursday to Aug. 3.

“I hope that when they come in they get a personalized service,” Wellings said. “That sets us apart from just going to the mall.”
