Electromagnet to travel through Woodridge

Published: Friday, July 19, 2013 1:30 p.m. CST

WOODRIDGE – A 50-foot-wide, circular electromagnet from Long Island, NY will be rolling through Woodridge in late July or early August.

A guest speaker from Fermilab will be presenting a program at the Woodridge Public Library discussing the electromagnet's journey, which ultimately ends at the lab in Batavia, at 2 p.m. July 21.

The project, which studies subatomic particles, places the ring on a barge to travel down the east coast, around the tip of Florida and up several rivers in Illinois until it reaches Lemont. Once in Lemont, it will travel through the night on a specially built truck until it hits its destination.
