WHEATON – Food, fun, car crashes, animals and classic rock are only a few of the attractions awaiting those who attend this year's DuPage County Fair from July 24 to 28.

The fair opens each day at 8 a.m. and lasts until 10 p.m., with games and events happening throughout.

Wednesday will begin with a ceremony featuring Tommy Hawk, the official mascot of the Chicago Blackhawks. The traditional food and animal judging will also take place Wednesday.

The festivities culminate in the first major concert, The Classic Rock Experience, which will be performed by cover band Midnight Special. According to the band's website, the show will include music of '70's era arena rock bands Elton John, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and more.

Thursday features a pair of concerts. At 7 p.m. the three-musician band New Odyssey will play 30 different instruments. Then, Billy Croft & the 5 Alarm will offer country rock at 9 p.m.

Friday is the official Blackhawks celebration day, as well as the first annual Spirits of DuPage beer and wine tasting fundraiser. For $40, attendees can try different beers, wines and appetizers, while enjoying music from The Deb Welch Band.

On Saturday, the fair will host the Country Fun Games, including contests such as the hay bale toss, watermelon and pie eating contests and husband calling from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Then bands AVM and Comfortably Floyd play at 7:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. respectively.

Finally, Sunday will feature the demolition derby with two rounds at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Cindy Naberhaus, one of the directors for the fair, said that if the weather cooperates, the event may attract more than 100,000 people during the five day event.

"I think it's popular because we're a county fair and people in this area love to go to festivals," Naberhaus said. "All our events help take kids and families back to the country and back to family."
