The Berwyn Public Library has rededicated itself to servicing teens through new programs and a revamped collection – and we are not stopping there.

The library has planned and secured funding for furnishings for an updated teen room. Along with the reorganization of the physical space, we have also made significant changes in how we collect and arrange materials with a focus on popular collections with a user-friendly emphasis. In addition to the new customer focused policies and programs, we created a book club exclusively for teenagers: “entitled” is the newest book club on the scene and it is coming to life.

For years libraries have been a gathering place for the community; a center to teach our young children the value of literature and grow a love for reading. Many adults can remember a special experience at their library. You may remember your first library card or your favorite picture book. As an adult you may find yourself back in the library using the resources for classes or job hunting. So where do the teenagers go? Libraries everywhere have faced this very problem. How do you take the children in story times and keep them coming back when the teen years approach? Well, you give them what they want of course!

The Berwyn Public Library is making great efforts to reach out the teens in the community to create an environment that will be what they want and need it to be.

With space, literature and programming dedicated to teenagers, we decided why not a book club too. The library has three adult book clubs and a junior book club for our younger readers; but there wasn’t anything for those in-between years. “entitled” is a book club that meets once a month in the Teen Room at the library, and is modeled very similarly to the adult book clubs. With teens and librarians picking the books we are able to expand the topics and genres we read.

Are you a teenager, or do you know a teen that loves to read and would be interested in joining “entitled?”

Stop in and check out what the Berwyn Public Library has to offer.
