LA GRANGE

Gun found near Seventh Avenue School

A Ruger 9 mm handgun was found behind Seventh Avenue School at 701 Seventh Avenue. It was turned over to police, who determined it was a stolen gun based on a database from Rockford Police. The report was made at 2:47 p.m. July 18.

Teens damage windows at McDonald’s

A surveillance video showed teens damaging windows at the McDonald’s at 100 N. La Grange Road, an employee at the restaurant reported at 4:05 p.m. July 17.

Man suing for unpaid services gets followed

A man being sued for nonpayment of services followed the man suing him to the Daley Center in Chicago from the La Grange Road Station, as reported at 5:24 p.m. July 16.

Resisting or obstructing police officer

Phaeja Simone Smith, 20, of the first block of Washington Avenue, was charged with resisting or obstructing police officer at 8:53 p.m. July 16 in the first block of Washington Avenue.

Teen charged with battery

A 17-year-old La Grange boy was charged with two counts of domestic battery after an incident in the 300 block of East Avenue at 6:05 p.m. July 15.

Break-in at dry cleaners

Marks on the door of a dry cleaning shop in the 800 block of Hillgrove Avenue indicated someone forced entry into the shop. The report was made at 9:06 p.m. July 14.

Five catalytic converters stolen

A man reported that catalytic converters on five of his trucks were stolen the weekend of July 13-14. He notified police at 7:05 p.m. July 15.

Burglary attempt

A resident in the 700 block of Eighth Avenue reported that someone removed panes of glass on his garage windows. The report was made at 11:46 a.m. July 15.

Graffiti on house

Two men spray painted a white house in the 800 block of La Grange Road, a witness reported at 6:37 p.m. July 12.

LA GRANGE PARK

DUI

Leo K. Ortiz, 29, of the 400 block of Longcommon Road, Riverside, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police observed his vehicle swerve, hit a curb and disobey a stop sign around 3:13 a.m. July 12. Ortiz was pulled over in a parking lot at 26th Street and Barnsdale Road, where he told police, “Just arrest me,” before failing multiple field sobriety tests. He was given a court date of Aug. 14 in Maywood.

Driving without license

• Gloria Hernandez, 34, of the 2800 block of Ridgeway Avenue, Chicago, was charged with driving without a license and speeding after police pulled her over in the 700 block of La Grange Road at 4:55 a.m. July 16.

• Richard E. Bulich, 53, of the 4900 block of Laramie Avenue, Chicago, was charged with driving without a license and insurance and with a suspended registration after police matched his license with a database of suspended insurance violators at 4 p.m. July 17 in the 1000 block of La Grange Road.

• Javier Erazo, 28, of the 4000 block of West 56th Place, Chicago, was charged with driving without a license and speeding after police pulled him over in the 500 block of La Grange Road at 8:22 a.m. July 12.

Teens apprehended for multiple graffiti incidents

Police apprehended two teenagers, ages 15 and 17, for two graffiti incidents reported July 12 and 15. Graffiti was found on a storefront at Village Market South in the 300 block of Sherwood Road and on a tractor trailer in the 1400 block of Barnsdale Road.

WESTCHESTER

Postal truck tire punctured

A postal worker reported that a tire on his truck was punctured in the U.S. Post Office parking lot at 10240 Roosevelt Road between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. July 8.

Woman deceived into giving away gift cards

A woman said she sent $1,800 in Walmart gift cards to an unknown person who told her that she had won $8 million and a car but needed to pay her taxes. The incident was reported at 6:57 p.m. July 8.

Dominick’s employee caught stealing

Floyd King, 53, of the 2700 block of North McVicker Avenue, Chicago, was charged with theft after security personnel observed him stealing merchandising from the Dominick’s at 3020 Wolf Road at 11:03 p.m. July 10. King is an employee at the store and stole the items after the store had closed for the day.

Burglar moves TV, then leaves

A man who broke into a home in the 10500 block of Oxford Street moved a TV to near the front door and then fled, a resident at the house reported at 5:20 a.m. July 9.

Jewelry stolen from house

A resident in the 2400 block of Pinecrest Lane said she was forced to exit her house after an unknown person rang her doorbell and asked about flooding in the backyard. The person then entered her house and stole jewelry from a bedroom, the woman reported at 8:50 a.m. July 14.

COUNTRYSIDE

Warrant arrest

Shawn Adkins, 50, of the 9700 block of Lorraine Drive, was arrested on a warrant after attempting to flea from Indian Head Park Police, who noticed him near Joliet Road and Brainard Avenue. Adkins was arrested without incident.
