Cantigny plans birthday celebration for Col. McCormick
WHEATON – Cantigny Park will honor the birthday of park benefactor and former Chicago Tribune Editor and Publisher Colonel Robert R. McCormick with a day of activities, according to a news release from the park.
McCormick was born July 30, 1880 and lived on a 500-acre country estate from 1920 until his death in 1955. Upon his death, his will dictated that the area be used to create Cantigny Park.
The park will mark the occasion with vintage games for children, free parking, a museum open house, splash artillery target practice, glass spinning and sheepherding demonstrations and a birthday cake cutting. Attendees can also make butter and ice cream, listen to live music and visit with members of the adoptaBull English Bulldog Rescue, which will be on-site to celebrate McCormick's love of bulldogs.
The festivities will last from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit cantigny.org
