Elmhurst police arrest burglary suspects after car collision

ELMHURST – Police charged three men suspected of conducting a series of smash and grab burglaries in the area after they crashed their getaway car.

The three men charged collided with another car while speeding away from a burglary they had committed in Bellwood at 1:08 a.m. July 10, police said. They then reportedly fled on foot before Elmhurst police and other local departments located them. The other driver was transported to an area hospital for injuries, the extent of which police do not know.

Tanzel D. Morris, 21, of the 1600 block of Justine Street, Markham, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, three counts of leaving the scene of an accident, two counts of reckless driving, burglary and fugitive from justice.

Roosevelt Brown, 20, of the 1400 block of South Edbrooke Avenue, Riverdale, was charged with burglary, criminal trespass to a motor vehicle, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident and three counts of obstructing identification.

Byron F. Dennis, 19, of the 100 block of 158th Street, Harvey, was charged with criminal trespass to a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.

The three are considered persons of interest in at least one other burglary investigation that occurred at 5:35 a.m. July 7 at Williams Liquors, 925 South York Street. A front window was broken and a large tub filled with liquor and cigarettes was left by the door. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
