ELMHURST – The City Council approved a fourth letter of agreement with the Addison Avenue project developer at last week's council meeting.
The agreement gives Addison Corridor Development I, LLC and the city six months to enter into a contract.
Two weeks earlier, the Development, Zoning and Planning (DPZ) Committee's report reccommending that the council approve the fourth letter was pulled from the agenda, since a copy of the letter had not been attached to the meeting packet.
The council agreed to suspend the rules and vote on both the report and resolution at the same meeting since the current letter of agreement expired that day. Normally, the rules require two weeks between when the council considers the report and when the resolution is presented.
"This was a project that the developer brought to us," said Fifth Ward Alderman and DPZ Committee Chairman Scott Levin.
Levin explained that while the city owns the property, the developer had originally approached the city with the idea for a parking garage with the intent to buy back the proposed first floor of retail space.
"We shouldn't be confused by the fact that there's a separate procedure that's been going on," said Levin.
Currently, the developer submitted a request for a variance that would allow for a six-story building instead of the originally proposed four-story one. While the Zoning and Planning Commission recommended denial of that request, the DPZ Committee has yet to submit a report on the issue to the council for a vote.
Without any comments from other council members, the resolution passed with a unanimous vote.
