Elmhurst bike race to close streets Friday

ELMHURST – During the Elmhurst Cycling Classic this Friday, a number of streets will be closed to most or all traffic.

The event begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 8 p.m. with a series of races for cyclists of various classes. The mile-long course runs around Elmhurst College.

According to the city's website, the following streets are part of the course and will be closed to all traffic expect emergency personnel throughout the day and evening.

• Elm Park Avenue between South Prospect and South Grace avenues

• South Grace Avenue between Elm Park Avenue and Alexander Boulevard

• Alexander Boulevard between South Grace and South Prospect avenues

• South Prospect Avenue between Alexander Boulevard and Elm Park Avenue

The following streets will be open to emergency personnel and local residents only.

• South Prospect Avenue between Claremont Street and Elm Park Avenue

• Hagans Avenue between Claremont Street and Elm Park Avenue

• South Grace Avenue between Winthrop and Elm Park avenues

• Elm Park Avenue between Fairfield and South Grace avenues

• Utley Road between Fairfield and South Grace avenues

• Alexander Boulevard between Fairfield and South Grace avenues

• South Myrtle Avenue between Walter Street and Alexander Boulevard

• South Prospect Avenue between Elmhurst Library Southern Entrance and Alexander Boulevard

• West Church Street between South Cottage Hill and South Prospect avenues
