City announces changes to parking program for those with disabilities
WHEATON – With a new law in the books from the Illinois General Assembly, Wheaton residents with disabilities will have to re-certify their disabled placards with the state, according to a city news release.
Beginning January 1, 2014, only people with certain types of disabilities will be exempt from paying parking meter fees. Pending reapplication and approval, those exempt will be issued a new yellow and gray striped "metered exempt" parking placard.
Those who do not have that specific striped card will be required to pay for metered parking, even if he or she has a temporary or permanent parking placard.
