Broadview police arrest suspect in string of car burglaries

BROADVIEW – Police have a suspect in custody who they believe was involved in a string of car burglaries Monday in Broadview.

Between five and 10 cars parked on Roosevelt Road between Ninth and 25th Avenues were entered Monday, with the thief or thieves stealing anything from loose change to an iPad, Broadview Police Sargeant Tom Kostka said.

All of the cars were unlocked, and there is no evidence that any cars were broken into. Some cars entered were parked in driveways, while others were on the street.

Late Monday or early Tuesday, police got a tip from a resident reporting suspicious behavior, leading to the arrest of a suspect they think was involved in the burglaries. Police will continue to have unmarked cars in the area, as they did overnight, in hopes of catching anyone else involved.

None of the stolen items have been recovered. Police encourage residents to keep their car doors locked.

"If people at least do that, that's going to help us quite a bit," Kostka said. "And [they should] keep their valuables inside."
