DOWNERS GROVE – A Downers Grove man announced his intention to challenge Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin in the next election, according to media reports.

Doug Truax, 43, of Downers Grove, will run as the Republican underdog against Durbin, the Senate's No. 2 Democrat in his third term.

According to media reports, Truax is a married father of three who co-owns and manages a health care consulting firm. He is a New Mexico native and West Point graduate, and spent six years on active duty as an officer in the U.S. Army, the report states.

Durbin, 68, won his last three terms handily.

The general election is in November 2014.
