Prospect Park Pathway officially open in Clarendon Hills

CLARENDON HILLS – Clarendon Hills residents will want to get out their pedometers and get on their walking shoes this summer as the long-awaited Prospect Park Pathway has officially opened.

The new pathway adds almost one mile of walking, running, hiking and biking trails to the Clarendon Hills Park District's 23-acre community park located between Norfolk, Oxford, Chicago and Prospect avenues.

An extensive planning process and three-week construction project preceded the opening of the pathway, which connects all athletic fields, the playground, pavilion, Community Center and local schools located adjacent to Prospect Park.

The new trail is a 10-foot wide asphalt pathway, is ADA accessible and can accommodate two-way foot traffic. A Recreational Trails Program Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources covered most of the cost of this new amenity.

An official ribbon cutting ceremony will take place during the annual Family Fall Festival on Sept. 21.
