"Guardian" system protects senior citizens

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office is encouraging senior citizens to sign up for a system that checks in on them during the hot summer months, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The "Guardian System" is designed to ensure the safety and wellbeing of senior citizens in DuPage County. Those who register receive phone calls on a regular basis that require them to enter a four-digit code on the telephone. If the recipient doesn't respond, a dispatcher will attempt to contact the individual. If there is still no response, a policeman is dispatched to check on them.

As the weather gets warmer, senior citizens or those with physical or mental disabilities can be especially vulnerable, the release said. To register for the program or obtain more information, call the sheriff's office at 630-407-2400.
