Police arrest man accused of shooting at group of people in Westmont

WESTMONT – A Melrose Park man is in custody for allegedly firing a gun at a group of people July 5 in Westmont.

Francisco Marquez, 20, of 4116 North Park St., Melrose Park, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Westmont police.

At about 6:15 p.m. July 5, Marquez allegedly fired multiple rounds at a group standing in a parking lot near Chicago and Linden avenues in Westmont from his maroon Ford Explorer.

No one was struck or injured in the incident, according to Westmont Sgt. Stephen Thompson.

Thompson previously said police believed a specific group of people was targeted in the incident, though it was not believed to be gang-related.
